Geelong Local Returns Home After 7 Years in the U.S. to Launch Lumi Counselling- A New Light for Families

Geelong, VIC - March 2026:
After seven years working with families and young people in the United States, Geelong local Luke Mihail is coming home with a vision to change the way families experience counselling. His new practice, Lumi Counselling, will offer something Geelong hasn’t seen before; a warm, personal, and forward-thinking approach designed for today’s children, teens, and families.

Opening in May 2026, Lumi Counselling will provide support for anxiety, emotional regulation, autism, and family transitions, along with parent coaching, NDIS-friendly services, and workshops for schools and community organisations.

“Coming back to Geelong is really special for us,” Mihail said. “This is home. I fell in love with this city years ago, and it’s where we want to raise our kids. After working overseas, I’m excited to invest in this community again.
Lumi Counselling is about giving families practical tools, fresh perspective, and real hope - because light changes everything.”

While not originally from Geelong, Mihail spent several years serving families and youth in this region before moving to the U.S. “Geelong has a strong sense of community,” he said.
“There’s a genuine care for families and a growing need for services that feel both professional and personal. I want Lumi to build on that; to offer something that feels new, hopeful, and grounded in connection.”

With more than 20 years of counselling and not-for-profit experience, including seven years in the U.S., Mihail brings international insight and a heart for local families. The name ‘Lumi’ comes from the word light: a reminder that change begins when we see things clearly.

Lumi Counselling will offer in-person and online sessions from Geelong, with limited spaces available. The waitlist for 2026 is now open for families ready to begin their journey.
