why choose lumi?
experienced. qualified. intentionally different.
When you're choosing someone to support your child, experience and professional standards matter.
At lumi, you're working with a counsellor who has spent over 20 years supporting children, teenagers and families, and who holds the highest practising registration level awarded by the Australian Counselling Association.
what does ACA Level 4 actually mean?
I'm proud to be a Level 4 registered counsellor with the Australian Counselling Association (ACA), Australia's largest counselling registration body.
The ACA has four numbered practising registration levels. Level 4 is the highest, recognising counsellors who have met substantial requirements for professional qualifications, supervised counselling experience and direct client work.
To qualify for Level 4 under the ACA's published requirements, a counsellor must meet the following minimum standards:
Qualifications: A recognised counselling degree.
Professional experience: At least 4 years of post-qualification counselling experience.
Direct counselling experience: A minimum of 1,000 client contact hours.
Professional supervision: At least 100 hours of professional supervision.
And the commitment doesn't stop there.
To maintain practising registration, ACA members are required to undertake ongoing professional development and professional supervision each year, while practising under the association's professional and ethical standards.
For parents, this means more than letters after a name. It means choosing a counsellor whose qualifications, experience and professional responsibilities are recognised through an established professional association.
20+ years working with young people and families
Professional registration is one part of the picture. Experience is another.
Before creating lumi, I spent more than two decades working alongside children, teenagers and families in schools, youth work, community services and counselling.
I've deliberately chosen to specialise in counselling for kids and teens, approaching their challenges through a broader family perspective.
I believe that understanding a young person means understanding the world around them, not just what they bring into the counselling room.
serious about counselling. not always serious in how we do it.
Here's where lumi is a little different.
Young people don't always want to sit across from an adult and talk about their feelings for 50 minutes.
So we don't make that the expectation.
Instead, sessions are designed to be engaging, creative and enjoyable, using games, hands-on challenges, practical therapeutic tools and conversations that feel natural.
There's always a purpose behind the fun.
We build trust, explore emotions, develop coping skills and work towards meaningful goals, while involving parents in appropriate and supportive ways.
It's professional counselling, delivered in a way that feels a whole lot more approachable.
professional standards. genuine connection. practical progress.
Qualifications and experience matter. But so does the connection your child has with their counsellor.
My commitment is to bring both together: professional care, a genuine understanding of young people, and practical strategies that can make a difference beyond our sessions.
Because at lumi, it's not just about helping young people talk about what's difficult.
It's about helping them find ways forward.
