At Lumi Counselling, kids counselling is built to help children feel safe, supported and understood.
Using creative, play based and strength focused approaches, I work with children across Geelong to build confidence, emotional skills and resilience.
Every child is unique, so every session is shaped around their age, personality and needs. Parents stay fully included so you always feel informed and supported.
Kids & Child Counselling - Geelong
Who I support
Kids counselling can help children who are navigating things like:
Anxiety or worries
Emotional regulation
Anger or big feelings
Friendship challenges
Confidence and self esteem
Life transitions or change
School pressures
Social or communication struggles
Sensitive or empathic children who feel things deeply
Kids do not need a diagnosis to benefit from counselling. Support can simply help them feel steadier, more confident and better equipped day to day.
How counselling Helps Kids
Kids counselling can help your child to:
Understand and express feelings in healthy ways
Build confidence and resilience
Grow emotional awareness
Strengthen friendships and communication
Learn calming tools
Develop problem solving skills
Feel supported through change or challenges
Parents often notice more settled behaviour, improved confidence and better communication at home and school.
Frequently asked questions
How long do sessions run?
Sessions run for 50 minutes.
Do parents attend the sessions?
The first session includes you. After that, sessions are usually child only, with check ins and updates for you along the way. This varies according to parent’s wishes and counsellor’s recommendations.
Do I need a referral?
No referral is needed. You can join the waitlist or book directly.
Can you work with my child if they are shy or slow to warm up?
Yes. Many children take time to build trust. Sessions move at your child’s pace.
What sessions Look Like
Sessions are warm, creative and fun, using approaches children naturally connect with. This can include:
Play based therapy
Art and creative expression
Story telling
Strength based activities
Emotional skills building
Social skills practice
Problem solving strategies
Calming tools and coping routines
My goal is to create a space where your child feels relaxed enough to open up and practise new skills in ways that feel natural for them.
Support for Parents
You play a key role in your child’s progress, and counselling works best when we work as a team. Parents are included through regular check ins, practical tools and clear updates so you always feel informed and confident.
Together we create simple, personalised strategies that support your child at home, at school and in everyday life, helping them build the confidence and emotional skills they need to thrive.
